( original page here )
you can really tell that the first three panels i pretty much redrew exactly like the original.
i’ve never drawn buildings before or those angles, so i had a hard time figuring out how i would draw it my own way.
i loosened up a lot with the last two panels though!! THEY WERE TONS OF FUN. especially the fourth. it’s my favourite line. i’m gonna try harder to redraw the pages my own way, rather than trying to draw exactly like Matsumoto does.
(Brian Fukushima's three onionduck boys make a cameo in the last panel!)

after Taiyo Matsumoto’s TEKKONKINKREET
i went through all the Taiyo Matsumoto pages i had saved on my computer (pretty much all of TEKKONKINKREET) to try to pick out a page to redraw. i was completely stumped on how to alter the event of one panel because every single thing in TK is so well put together? maybe it’s because i am so completelyandmadly in love with it that i can’t see it being any other way. Each panel just WORKS so well on it’s own, and also in comparison to the panels around it IDK.
despite my cheapattempt at altering one of the panels (can you guess which one it is), i learned A LOT doing this. i’ve always been afraid to redraw anything of Matsumoto’s because he is for real my biggest comicshero and it scares me how far ahead he is and what he does still feels really impossible for me?
BUT going through all my favourite Matsumoto pages, i decided i’m gonna try to redraw each and every single one of them to teach myself about stuff!! gotta figure out how he does what he does SO INCREDIBLY WELL.
